Connecting to the internet via a dial up modem has been around for some time now, and is an ideal method when you start using the internet, as it’s cheap and easy to use. Once you have used the internet for a bit longer however, it is likely that you will get fed up with the slow speed and also the fact that you cannot use your telephone while on the internet. Broadband is available in most areas now and is gradually becoming cheaper. It is worth shopping around as prices do vary and you can often get free telephone calls as part of the package. When you have chosen your ISP (internet service provider), they will send you a modem and the various cables and filters you will need to get on the internet. This is a pretty straightforward procedure and I can usually complete the installation in under an hour, should you decide not to do it yourself. If you don’t want all the cables then you can opt for a wireless connection (WIFI). It is very important that whatever system you use, you should have anti-virus and firewall software. These will prevent harmful and damaging attacks on your computer from the internet. A lot of new computers come with trial systems installed and manufacturers hope that you will buy them as it’s just easier. There are some very good free systems available and I can install these for you, just let me know. |
