Q - Perhaps you could list what the 'F' keys are used for on the computer keyboard?
A - Several programs have their own Function keys (e.g. Sage uses F6 to duplicate the field above). F1 will usuall bring up a help screen. F11 will open Internet Explorer in full screen mode, useful to see more information on screen, F11 returns you back to normal. F5 refreshes a page or screen. F4 opens the address bar in Internet Explorer. There are loads of others, I suggest you look in the help screen of the program you are using, make a note of them until you get used to them.
Q -After a period of inactivity, my HP Pavilion computor goes to sleep! I've tried many things, but I can't wake it up. I have to hold the 'start' button in for 5 seconds to turn it off and then re-boot! Help!
A - Try the following - right click on the desktop, then click on 'properties' then 'screen saver' then 'power', make the adjustments to the system standby etc then click on OK. If this doesn't help email me and I'll investigate further for you.
Q - Paul, I wonder if you can advice me on how not to recieve emails from one particular sender..is there anyway of blocking/sending messages back unread ? I use Outlook Express to manage my emails
A - With the relevant email highlighted click on 'Messages' then on 'Block sender'
Q -Outlook express will not deliver any mail, it says my box is full recomending I delete old messages in box ,deleated mail sentmail etc which I have done to no avail. any ideas?
A - Most email programs get clogged up at some time in their use. You can normally fix this by just deleting the old emails. However occasionally large media files will cause a problem, these can usually be identified when you defragment the hard drive as they will not defragment and show up as a red segment. I suggest you have a look through your email folders and get rid of any large media files. You can save them on the hard drive first, it's the outlook express file that causes the problem
Q - My anti - virus software won't update any more what can I do?
A - Try going into the 'Program Control' section of your Firewall software then into the 'Programs' section. Make sure your Anti-virus software has a tick marked against the 'access' section allowing it to go on to the internet. (Your firewall is there to stop unwanted programs getting on to the internet and this is normally the problem).
Q - I am unable to rid myself of daily items of spam (up to 14 & 15 emails at a time)in spite of using www.lavasoftusa.com on two occasions. What am I doing wrong?
I accidently clicked on one of the adverts on screen on one occasion and that must have exposed my address to probably hundreds of advertisers.
A - Unfortunately clicking on some sites will mean they now have your email address and will give it to others. The lavasoft site is for spyware which won't help the 'Spam' problem. One of the free programs to assist with this problem is called 'Spam Terrior' and can be found on http://www.agnitum.com/products/spam-terrier/index.php . Please note I cannot guarantee this program and you will have to set it up. It is free though and fairly straightforward. Microsoft Outlook does have its own junk mail system which works well.
