Good Weekend

November 16th, 2009

Should be a good weekend, as we have the Norwich game against Tranmere, followed by us having Harry overnight which will be great! While we were away in Middlesbrough he fell asleep on me which was wonderful (aren’t I soppy)!
Also off for a birthday lunch on Sunday for our daughter in law, Sarah

All in all should be good fun.

AVG

November 6th, 2009

I know several of my clients use the same anti-virus program as I do, namely AVG. In the coming weeks you are probably going to get a message telling you to upgrade to avg 9, which is the new free version.
When this message appears it is perfectly ok to upgrade but make sure you don’t click on the avg “Internet Security” as that’s the paid version. As always any questions just ring me.
Unusually I have recently been very busy, which is unusual for this time of the year. Going to a very old friends wedding dinner tomorrow which should be fun.

busy, busy

October 31st, 2009

Very busy at the moment which is great. The game at Wembley wasn’t very good but the trip was good fun.
Babysitting of Harry is going well, and he is really happy now and smiles a lot of the time, I’m trying to get him to wave but I guess that’s pretty ambitious as he isn’t four months old yet!
When you are searching on the internet don’t forget that enclosing words in brackets will narrow the search to pages that contain all those words e.g. (Norwich football club) will only show sites including all those words and will exclude all the other pages about Norwich. This can save you trawling through thousands of pages.

Marvellous time of the year

October 23rd, 2009

Unless you have huge trees in your garden this is a wonderful time of the year with colourful leaves, and bright crisp days. Some of you have a never ending job of clearing leaves so you might not be so impressed!
Another busy weekend to come with the Swindon game followed by a trip to Wembley with my sons to see the American football game. We have been following NFL for years and it’s a great trip with a crowd of 85,000+ supporters.
Watched a program yesterday about baby models, all seemed a bit intense and I doubt if Harry’s parents will put him forward as a model, although he is of course the best looking baby ever.

I mentioned last time about backup, another point to remember is the recovery discs for your p.c. some modern computers come with them (notably Dell), but otherwise you have to produce them. There should be a program to do this on your machine. Please do it, as it is much more difficult (and therefore more expensive) to recover your computer if it completely crashes.

Happy Thursday

October 15th, 2009

Another busy week, with a lot of my time spent fixing laptops. One of the main problems with laptops is the puny little fan that they put on them, which struggles to cope with the heat from the processor etc. Worth checking the fan is clear when you use it.
We are still taking Harry to the swimming pool each weekend, and although he doesn’t smile much when he is there, he doesn’t cry either so we think he is ok with it!
Having spent so much time reformatting p.c’s lately, I would like to encourage all my clients to back up regularly, imagine if your computer failed tomorrow and you lost everything on it, would you be unhappy?
If you are not sure how to backup, give me a call.

What a week!

October 4th, 2009

Well then what about Norwich, now the highest scoring club at home in all the leagues! Brilliant games both Tuesday and yesterday.
We are off to the local swimming pool today in Costessey with Harry and all the family, should be great fun.

Been fixing a friends pc over the last few days trying to get World of Warcraft working for him. Took several goes and ended up accessing the windows registry. If you are ever asked to change the Windows registry be very careful as it can stop your pc starting up.

Finally don’t forget if you have Vista you can change icon sizes on the desktop by holding down CTRL and rotating the mouse wheel.

Definitely cooling down

September 29th, 2009

Seems to have suddenly got cooler, still I suppose it’s nearly October. Off to the evening match against Leyton Orient tonight, will probably be quite chilly in the stands.

Our lawn looks like a desert at the moment, could definitely do with some rain. I only put the turf down this year so a bit worried it will all die off.

Harry gets bigger all the time and will soon be 3 months old. He smiles all the time, and we have now started to do a bit of babysitting, which is great fun.

That’s all for now, better start preparing for Christmas

Missed Friday

September 21st, 2009

Just in case anybody is reading this, sorry I missed my regular posting day of Friday. Haven’t been very well, so catching up today.
Missed the football on Saturday but I listened to the game on the radio, sounded quite good, My wife and sons went and seemed to enjoy it.
Fixing a client’s power supply on their computer, quite unusual for one of these to fail. They are fairly complicated as the power has to be reduced for several of the computer components some as low as 0.5 amp. As a result you can’t really take them apart and have to be replaced. Only the third one I have had to do in the last 5 years.
Oh well start of a new week, let’s see what interesting tasks I get!

Here’s Harry !

September 11th, 2009

IMG_0144 Here’s our pride and joy, now weighs 12lbs and is as you can see a very happy baby. We are even going to babysit shortly when his mum goes out for a birthday dinner, can’t wait.

Been a very busy time recently with the newsletter going out, and thankfully over a third were sent by email.

Not doing much training at the moment, most of the work is with peoples computers going wrong or problems with their internet connection.

Off on the vintage broadsman on Sunday on the broads which should be interesting.

Newsletter

September 4th, 2009

Currently busy producing and sending out my newsletter. I normally do 2 a year and people seem to like them. This time I am trying to send as many as possible by email so if any of my clients would like to receive it that way please let me know. (Use the contact us page on the web site). For those of you that have already asked for anĀ email copy, thanks to all 71 of you!

Harry is coming over to dinner tonight with his parents, I am doing a curry but I suspect at 2 months old he won’t want any. I am trying not to pester them but it is difficult as I do have several clients within a hundred yards of them.

Have a good weekend

Paul
